Frequently Asked Questions

Why you should have your Clubs Custom Fit?

Any golfer who is going to invest in their game by purchasing a new set of clubs should take two things into account. First, spend some TIME to get custom fit. This will ensure you are investing your money properly and be sure that you get what you really require to play the game better. Second, a golfer MAY also save money by getting fit for clubs as the golfer may find out that they do not need all the clubs they origionally were expecting to buy. Every golfer is not the same in size, body shape or the style of their golf swing. A custom fitting results in clubs that are specifically suited to an individual's height, strength, clubhead speed and swing type and needs on the golf course.

Off-the-shelf golf clubs are one-size-fits-all, designed for the "typical" golfer. In this case, typical means someone 5-foot-9 or 5-10 who hits a 5- or 6-iron 160 yards. A golfer might get lucky with an off-the-shelf set, but many golfers will find themselves ill-suited to such a set and the adjustments a golfer makes in his or her game to compensate for an ill-fitting set can make grooving a great swing that much more difficult.

A clubfitting can be performed by one of the Golf Professionals here at Wascana Country Club. Our Professionals are certified by Ping, Titleist, TaylorMade, Nike and Callaway. We will also do the club fitting outside on our driving range and not indoors into a net so the golfer can actually see the true ball flight and distance while using the clubs. Clubfitting is not have to be a time-consuming or expensive endeavor. A very basic clubfitting might take as little as 15 minutes, with the average being 30-45 minutes. A total set fitting can take a longer or can be spread out over a couple of sessions.

During the fitting, the golfer will hit different versions of the same club. At Wascana, we have fitting systems from Ping, Titleist, TaylorMade, Nike and Callaway each of which provide the golfer a number of different combinations of the clubs of which they are being fitted. This provides the Golfer a chance to see the difference in each club and how it performs with regards to ball flight, trajectory, distance and direction. While watching these, the golfer along with the Fitter, will see the clubs that perform the best and will be able to find the best way to help improve their game. Club fittings should be done for every club in the bag, including putters and wedges, but especially for iron fittings and driver fittings following closely behind.
